So, to reacquaint ourselves with the different facets of Hogwarts’ Keeper of the Keys, here are some facts you might not know about Hagrid. While we might feel like we know Hagrid, especially given how many times Harry, Ron and Hermione popped down to his hut for a cup of tea in the Harry Potter books, there are some facts about the Hogwarts gamekeeper that still manage to surprise us. In Philosopher's Stone, Harry, Ron, Hermione and Neville accidentally run into Fluffy whilst hiding from Peeves, who was attempting to give them away to caretaker Argus Filch, who was searching for them. On Halloween, Harry and Ron witness Snape entering the door to Fluffy's chamber, and for the next few days having a pronounced limp. Harry also overhears him saying "How are you meant to keep your eyes on all three heads at once?" to Filch.

During the 1992–1993 school year, Hagrid showed public disdain for the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher Gilderoy Lockhart, although he never did so for any other teachers. After Harry was accepted to Hogwarts in 1991, Hagrid was given the task of finding Harry, as Harry's uncle Vernon was doing everything in his power to prevent his nephew from receiving his Hogwarts acceptance letter. On Harry's eleventh birthday, Hagrid found the Dursleys and Harry in an isolated Hut-on-the-Rock, and accidentally broke the door down from the force of his knocking. Vernon threatened him with a gun, only for Hagrid to contemptuously seize the gun and twist it into a knot.

The school governors, including Draco's father Lucius, are informed, and Hagrid is convinced he would lose his job. He does have to go to a hearing, which results in the decision to execute Buckbeak, the hippogriff responsible for the injury. Harry and Hermione cleverly spare its life at the end of "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban."
James and Lily Potter
Apart from Harry, Ron and Hermione and the other Weasley children (excluding Percy), Hagrid seemed to have a good relationship with Lee Jordan who was a friend of Fred and George Weasley as he once shook Hagrid's hand, along with Fred and George, when he returned after his mission to find the giants. Apart from them, the other students had a mixed relationship with Hagrid which was especially evident while he taught Care of Magical Creatures. During the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, Albus Dumbledore was killed by Severus Snape (on Dumbledore's orders). Near the end of the battle, he confronted Death Eater Thorfinn Rowle who attempted to curse him only to realise that Hagrid's giant blood protected him. Rowle proceeded to set Hagrid's Hut on fire while the Death Eaters were fleeing the school grounds.

Hagrid’s main contribution to the defeat of the Dark Lord is to host a party… but “Support Harry Potter” sounds more like Dobby’s idea. Apart from the Malfoys, Hagrid also had an antagonistic relationship with Walden Macnair as they clashed when Beakbuck was going to be executed, when Macnair persuaded the giants to join Voldemort, and during the Battle of Hogwarts when Hagrid threw him across the Great Hall, knocking him unconscious. Hagrid was disgusted by the Malfoy family's pure blood supremacist values, their open ill-treatment of Muggle-borns and "Blood traitors," their allegiance to Lord Voldemort and their disrespect to Albus Dumbledore. In turn, the Malfoys disliked Hagrid, regularly mocking him and doing nearly everything in their collective power to get him sacked from his post at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hagrid had been a good friend of Harry Potter's parents, Lily and James, since the time they attended Hogwarts; like many who knew them, he admired them for being amongst the best wizards and witches of their age. Hagrid was beside himself when Lily and James were killed in 1981; Albus Dumbledore sent him to rescue their infant child, Harry, from the wreckage of their home in Godric's Hollow, and Hagrid later reintroduced Harry to the Wizarding world in 1991.
Fluffy
They were also extremely angry when Hagrid was attacked by Umbridge, again excluding the Slytherin students. Hagrid also opposed the Death Eater's control of Hogwarts alongside many of the students, including holding a Support Harry Potter Party in his Hut, and also fought alongside them against Voldemort and the Death Eater's during the Battle of Hogwarts. Hagrid initially held Quirinus Quirrell in high regard, considering him a very talented and clever wizard, and initially seemed to have a good relationship with him, especially when he introduced Quirrell to Harry in the Leaky Cauldron. However, due to his loyalty to Voldemort, a disguised Quirrell later took advantage of Hagrid's love for magical creatures and manipulated a drunken Hagrid into revealing the secret of getting past Fluffy in exchange for a dragon egg. Hagrid was later horrified and guilt-ridden when he learnt of Quirrell's true nature after his death, calling him an "evil git" and blaming himself for Harry's injuries during his encounter with Quirrell and Voldemort. As early as in his third year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, and possibly earlier than that, Hagrid managed to gain possession of numerous magical creatures, many of them dangerous, including Aragog, Fang, Fluffy, Buckbeak, and Norbert (later Norberta).
When Voldemort has taken over the Ministry of Magic, Hagrid hosts a ‘Support Harry Potter’ party in his hut.
It is revealed by Aberforth in "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" that Hagrid and Grawp hid in a cave near the school after the groundskeeper was nearly arrested for throwing a Support Harry Potter party, and the two brothers participate in the Battle of Hogwarts. Hagrid discovers his half-brother while he is on a mission in the giant colony for Dumbledore. When it looks like Hagrid has to leave the school in "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," he takes Harry and Hermione to meet Grawp so someone would know that the giant was there, even if Hagrid was gone. Harry, Ron, and Hermione are surprised when they return to Hogwarts for their fifth year and Hagrid isn't on the platform as students exit the Hogwarts Express. Instead, Professor Grubbly-Plank, a substitute Care of Magical Creatures professor, is there to take the first-year students across the lake. The pieces of Hagrid's broken wand are encased in the pink umbrella, as we see when he aims it at Dudley to give him a pig tail.
His loyalty is fierce and he’s kind to a fault, because Hagrid never judges on appearance – on the contrary, the scarier reputation a creature has, the more likely Hagrid is to sympathise. Steve Kloves, the scriptwriter, invented a running gag in which Hagrid gives some bit of information away and then says "I shouldn't have told you that." This repetition never actually happens in any of the books. Given his love of all animals, it might be surprising to learn that Hagrid is actually allergic to cats. In Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, Hagrid tells Harry that he ‘don’ like cats' because they make him sneeze, which is why he chose to buy Harry an owl, Hedwig, for his birthday present. Rowling has also confirmed that felines are one furry creature Hagrid won’t be friends with owing to his allergy. Of course, we know (a little) about his pink umbrella, his love of all (literally any) animals, and also his ability to see the best in people, but there are many more layers to Hagrid than all that.
Like many authors, Rowling had an idea of which actors and actresses she wanted to see play her characters on screen. In an interview with journalist Iain Johnstone, as reported by The Telegraph, the author discussed her dream cast and how she felt about the group of actors that was eventually assembled. Rowling described the gentleman as "huge and terrifying." But, like Hagrid, there was a soft spot behind the rough exterior. "And then he would sit down and talk about his garden and how his petunias had been very bad that year," Coltrane recalled in the interview.
Despite their size differences, he had a strong bond with his wizard father – Hagrid even used to put his father on the top of his dresser when he was annoyed with him. However, his father, sadly, passed away when Hagrid was in his second year of Hogwarts. Grawp and Hagrid were born of the same mother, the giantess Fridwulfa.[27] Grawp is about 16 feet (4.9 m) tall, which Hagrid claims is small for a giant. The other giants were bullying Grawp because of his diminutive size, and this is a factor in Hagrid’s decision to bring him to the Forbidden Forest. Big and dim, he only knows a few words in English and his manners are wild and unpredictable, but he is also a child in giant years.
It is enough for Hagrid that Dumbledore trusts Snape, despite any evidence to the contrary. Hagrid is loyal to all his friends, especially Harry, and to the creatures he loves, from Norbert to Aragog. It’s a loyalty he never questions, which may occasionally lead to trouble but – Aragog’s man-eating family aside – Hagrid’s friendship is a prize worth winning. We can tell from the affectionate way he talks about his father and the heroic efforts he makes with his not-so-little half-brother, Grawp.
Once back at Hogwarts, Hagrid continued his job as gatekeeper and Professor of Care of Magical Creatures. At the request of new headmaster, Severus Snape, Hagrid was placed in charge of students who had been assigned detention. Detention with Hagrid consisted of work in the Forbidden Forest, which was far safer than detention with Amycus and Alecto Carrow. Later that year, Hagrid narrowly escaped arrest after holding a Support Harry Potter party in his hut.
Hagrid would have known Remus Lupin for about as long as he knew the Potters and Sirius Black, though they didn't appear to be particularly close until 1993, when Lupin was appointed Defence Against the Dark Arts professor, and they became co-workers. Both Hagrid and Lupin knew what it was like to be within the wizarding community, yet still considered outsiders and face its prejudices, as Lupin was a werewolf and Hagrid was a half-giant. In 1995, they both joined the re-instated Order of the Phoenix, and worked together throughout the Second Wizarding War to protect Harry Potter and bring about the end of Lord Voldemort. Hagrid didn't appear to have much of a relationship with Percy Weasley, though it's unlikely they would have been very close prior to the Battle of Hogwarts even if they had had more contact. Though neither Ron, nor Harry nor Hermione were likely to inform Hagrid of this, Percy wrote to his younger brother, Ron, upon finding out that Ron had been made a Prefect, and advised him against associating with Hagrid, as he was a half-giant.
