On the ledge of a concrete channel, he has built a temporary sanctuary at a time when so many throughout the region are struggling to get by. Roughly four in 10 renters in Los Angeles County live in fear of becoming homeless, according to a recent study from UCLA’s Luskin School of Public Affairs. One reporter described Diaz’s home as having “riverfront appeal,” and other news stories have highlighted the ingenuity of the encampment amid an ongoing homelessness crisis.

But new research suggests that the system’s channels and levees were based on 20th century assumptions that did not take into account recent “whiplashing shifts” in extreme weather caused by global warming. The Orange County Fire Authority evacuated three apartment buildings Wednesday morning due to a slide in the 1500 block of Buena Vista. To make matters worse, this stretch of river is frequently crowded with weeds and trees. While the damage across Los Angeles County was not as significant as officials prepared for, it was “more like a thousand cuts,” said Lindsey Horvath, chair of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.

Downtown Los Angeles sees one of its wettest two-day periods as daily rainfall records hit Southern California

San Diego County may see 0.25 to 0.75 inches of rainfall per hour, with rainfall totals accumulating between 1 and 2 inches. For comparison, the average yearly rainfall for downtown Los Angeles is 14.25 inches. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass declared a state of emergency on homelessness shortly after she took office in December 2022. Her first budget allocated $1.3 billion to address the growing crisis, with the number of people living on the streets rising 80% since 2015.

We're halfway to Halloween — celebrate with a free stay at Lizzie Borden House. Here's how.

Despite the recent spring rainstorms, the water in the steep flood channel hasn’t come anywhere near Augusto’s home. Every Sunday, a group of volunteers descend on the river community and bring food, Augusto said, but he cannot recall the church they’re affiliated with or if they are local to the neighborhood. The river was long joined by the San Gabriel River in present-day Long Beach, but in the Great Flood of 1862, the San Gabriel carved out a new course 6 miles (9.7 km) to the east, and has discharged into Alamitos Bay ever since. The toll from the atmospheric river poised over California climbed tragically after three people were killed by falling trees as the storm spawned flooding and mudslides while blazing a damaging trail across the state.

In 2018, a mudslide in Montecito, near Santa Barbara, destroyed 130 homes and killed 23 people, making it one of the deadliest in California history. “Hopefully no more homes will be damaged, but it’s too early to tell,” Bass said. Natural Resources Secretary Wade Crowfoot called the plan "a big deal" because the state has focused much of its climate policy on reducing emissions from other areas, such as the energy sector, and less so from natural lands. California has spent about $9.6 billion since 2020 on efforts to address climate change using the state's natural lands. The targets come out of a law Newsom signed in 2022 requiring the state Natural Resources Agency to work with other agencies to create a plan to reduce emissions from natural lands.

“The impacts of increasingly extreme drought ending with extreme rainfall is something that engineers who designed L.A. “I’m personally concerned about this because our levee systems are very, very old and basically made out of soil,” said Amir AghaKouchak, a UC Irvine professor. AghaKouchak co-authored a 2020 study on the impacts of climate change on levees protecting critical infrastructure–transmission lines, roads, railroads, natural gas and petroleum pipelines in densely populated areas such as Southern California’s coastal communities. Augusto climbs a ladder up the steep wall of the channel to reach his makeshift shelter, another example of the extreme measures taken by many Angelenos struggling to find a place to live in one of the most expensive housing markets in the country. Along with the structure itself, it even appears to be adorned with a series of decorations that include a Dodgers flag flying outside of the door. The house used for exterior shots of Brady's home in the sitcom The Brady Bunch at North Dilling Street in North Hollywood, has the bank of the river as the edge of its backyard.

“I’m hoping there’s enough barrier between me and the mud that it won’t come down here,” the 73-year-old said. He had rerouted his downspouts in preparation for the storm and continued to watch the news — but he said the rain Sunday night hit his roof harder than he’d ever heard. Flows of mud have damaged some homes, forcing some residents to evacuate in Los Angeles. Dangerous winds kicked off the storm late Saturday across Northern and Central California, where gusts of more than 80 mph were recorded in some spots, causing fallen trees, power line damage and widespread outages.

Snowpack is the amount or thickness of snow that accumulates on the ground, according to the US Environmental Protection Agency. Snowpack in the mountains "plays a key role in the water cycle" in the Western US, the EPA says, "storing water in the winter when the snow falls and releasing it as runoff in spring and summer when the snow melts." A photo posted to the County of San Luis Obispo’s Facebook page shows a man climbing a ladder to safety with a car partially submerged in flood water behind him.

It's finished in textured engineered wood siding and comes in multiple colors, inside and out (as shown in the photos). Work on improvements designed to make the dam more resilient to future storms is expected to begin in 2025 and take four years to complete, officials said. The three-mile-long earthen dam was placed in the agency’s highest-risk category when it determined that several potential failure scenarios threatened more than 1 million people downstream, from Pico Rivera to Long Beach. The county, however, has still not submitted documentation showing that the deficiencies have been corrected, which are required in order for it to be eligible to receive federal funding toward the cost of repairs, Army Corps officials said. Problems at the Los Angeles River segment included erosion gullies up to 30 inches deep, several 16-inch-diameter pressurized gas pipelines penetrating the toe of the riverward slope, and an unpermitted 12-inch-diameter steel pipe on the levee crown.

California announces first new state park in a decade and sets climate goals for natural lands ABC7 Los Angeles

river house

And it just became harder and harder to pay for a room to live in,” Augusto said in Spanish while standing in the concrete channel, which carries runoff through the Highland Park neighborhood. The unhoused in Los Angeles sleep in tents on the street, in government-built tiny home villages or in converted hotels. Those with construction skills and a bit of ingenuity — like Augusto — build their own shelters on whatever strip of unused or discarded land they can commandeer. The walls consist of discarded fencing and wood paneling repurposed by Augusto, a tarp serves as a roof, and the front yard is the industrial backdrop of a city’s flood channel. In a city of multimillion-dollar houses and celebrity estates, Cesar Augusto’s home stands apart.

As rain pelts soggy Southern California, residents are urged to stay vigilant for mudslides

The California Highway Patrol said a 69-year-old man died Monday after his truck went down an embankment and filled with water in Yucaipa, about 80 miles (128 kilometers) east of Los Angeles. Another accident in nearby Fontana killed a 23-year-old man after the car he was in crashed into a tow truck in the rain, the agency said. Four people were killed in Northern California after the storm came ashore over the weekend with strong winds that toppled trees. They included a 63-year-old woman who was found dead Tuesday under a large tree in her backyard in Fair Oaks, Sacramento County officials reported. Normally flowing at a crawl, much of it through nondescript concrete channels, the Los Angeles River picks up speed during the rainy season.

‘Extremely dangerous situation’: Hollywood Hills hit by major mudslides, flooding, record rain

It remains one of the few areas along the World War II-era channel that has a soft bottom due to its high water table. As a result, it is prone to erosion and buildups of sediment, vegetation and debris that could back up flows dumped by major storms. The Weather Prediction Center has been compiling rainfall reports from the powerful atmospheric river impacting much of California. Flight delays and cancellations are mounting across major California airports as an atmospheric river-fueled storm lashes the state on Sunday night. Crews rescued people from swift-moving water in various parts of Southern California, including 16 people and five cats in Los Angeles County alone, authorities said.

Earlier Tuesday the National Weather Service issued a rare tornado warning for San Diego County. The warning was quickly cancelled, however, with forecasters explaining that the storm no longer appeared capable of producing a twister even if it briefly turned some San Diego streets into rivers. Officials expressed relief that the storm hadn’t yet killed anyone or caused a major catastrophe in Los Angeles despite its size and intensity, with nearly 400 trees toppling.

Mosquito season is upon us. So why are Southern California officials releasing more of them?

The plan aims to reduce the risks of wildfires across nearly 53,000 square miles (138,000 square kilometers) of land by 2045 through methods that include burning vegetation that can make wildfires more intense. The state also plans to plant 4.2 million trees, manage and restore 1.6 million acres (647,000 hectares) of grasslands, and protect more than 233,000 acres (94,000 hectares) of wetlands and seagrasses along that timeline. Over 16 million people remain under the moderate risk area, including Downtown Los Angeles, as the rainfall total is likely to keep rising. On Monday, Bass delivered her State of the City address, which included a call for "the most fortunate Angelenos'' to participate in a capital campaign to speed creation of affordable housing for people experiencing homelessness.

This will be the first state park created since Eastern Kern County Onyx Ranch State Vehicular Recreation Area in November 2014. More From the Los Angeles Times

Nearly 30% of the people in the U.S. who experienced homelessness for at least one night in January 2023 were in California, according to a federal point-in-time count released in December. A set of French doors cover the entrance next to a red refrigerator powered by a solar panel and a battery that are just strong enough to keep a carton of almond milk chilled. The channel below serves as a sink for some people in the community, who use the murky water to wash their hands and clothes.

Debris flows are “fast-moving landslides” that can occur during periods of intense rainfall, according to the US Geological Survey. It was unclear how many other residents were impacted by the debris flow, LAFD spokesperson Nicholas Prange told CNN Monday. The Earth Day announcement comes as Newsom unveiled new targets for cutting greenhouse gas emissions on natural lands. The plan sets out to reduce the risks of wildfires, expand forest cover and restore wetlands. Newsom said the targets would move the state closer toward achieving its mandate of carbon neutrality, meaning it will remove as many carbon emissions from the atmosphere as it emits, by 2045. Downtown Los Angeles's 7.01 inches in two days is the area's third-wettest two-day period on record as of Sunday.

The St. Francis Dam was built starting in 1924 (and through 1926), leading to the creation of a large reservoir in San Francisquito Canyon, and provided water for Los Angeles. Following the collapse of the dam, there was little appetite for large dams near the homes of Los Angeles' residents. Calls of gunshots with accounts of people fleeing throughout 11th Street Southwest and 16th Avenue Southwest turned into an “extensive search” overnight Tuesday, sheriff's officials said.

Located near the confluence of the Tuolumne and San Joaquin rivers, it is surrounded by vast almond orchards and dairy pastures. Californians will be able to use the park for hiking and picnicking, with plans for swimming and boating access in the future. The Pacific Coast Highway along California's coast is closed in at least two places after storm damage made it unsafe, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) said Monday. The latest Weather Prediction Center (WPC) reports show the impact of the powerful storm bringing record-setting precipitation in parts of California.

County officials have proposed taking ownership of 40 miles of flood-control channels still operated by the federal government. By doing so, they hope to expedite maintenance and improvements as climate change increases the frequency of extreme weather. Heavy rain this week turned the Los Angeles River flood-control channel into a raging torrent, and with new storms expected on Monday, emergency officials are keeping a wary eye on a well-known stretch that has long been vulnerable to flooding. A powerful atmospheric river-fueled storm is hovering above Southern California, unleashing torrential rain and floods across the metro-Los Angeles area. A flash flood warning remains in effect for Riverside County, southeastern Orange County and northwestern San Diego County for the next hour or so, with more flash flooding possible as the rainfall picks up.

In the rural Santa Cruz County community of Boulder Creek, Robert Brainard III, 45, was killed when a tree fell on his home. And in Sutter County, 82-year-old David Gomes was found dead beneath a fallen redwood tree in his backyard, authorities said. “Earth Day is always such a beautiful reminder that our planet is a shared space, and its health and future are dependent on our individual and communal commitment to restoration and regeneration. Being in the heart of the Golden State at the site of our new state park— a place designed through partnership — was such a fitting way to spend Earth Day,” said First Partner Jennifer Siebel Newsom. Boscobel said it is "working diligently alongside a team of engineers, art conservators, and local officials to assess the building and collection." The home's decor is made up of painted sheetrock walls, with a spruce tongue and groove ceiling and hardwood floor.

It boasts a gross tonnage of 145,655 GT and a length of 1,068 feet. I would highly recommend any cruise guest to do as much research as possible ahead of any sailing, as this will help plan out exactly what experiences are a priority. While the Getaway was originally constructed in 2014, the ship has undergone refurbishments that keep it feeling up to date and modern. I felt this ship was well maintained, and felt rather new, despite it being nearly 9 years old. Full of endless possibilities for activities, entertainment, and relaxation. The Getaway makes a great contender for prospective guests looking to cruise.

To be honest, I found the NCL logo shop, Tradewinds, to be rather lacking. On our voyage aboard the Getaway, there was not much to browse in terms of Norwegian Cruise Line specific souvenirs. This small specialty location offers decedent chocolates, macaroons, and gourmet cupcakes.

Is Norwegian Getaway a good ship to cruise on?

This is also a show that runs late into the evening, until 12am and sometimes 1am. My favorite areas of the Ropes Course are the two zip lines and the Plank. The Plank is an element of the course that allows guests to stand on a plank that stretches far over the edge of the ship. Norwegian Getaway itinerary program is largely based on 7- to 14-day long voyages to ports in the Caribbean and Bermuda leaving roundtrip from homeport NYC New York. All Eastern Caribbean itineraries visit NCL's private island in The Bahamas - Great Stirrup Cay.

Each NCL ship has a casino onboard, and the Getaway is no different. This area of the ship features classic slot machines, as well as table games. While on our sailing, we noticed that this area of the ship tends to remain open late into the night. Wander along while enjoying the ocean breeze and stunning views. You'll find plenty of restaurants and bars here, including La Cucina and Ocean Blue.

When first boarding the ship is there any food available?

The vessel was built by Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany and is located most of the time in Miami (where was the ceremony of naming the Norwegian Getaway on February 7, 2014). While the ship was under construction, on 5 March 2013 a fire broke out. Luckily, no one was injured and the accident did not stop the construction works. Note that some of the nicer restaurants, such as Le Bistro and Cagney's, do require men to wear slacks. At The Waterfront, an outdoor space that encircles Deck 8, passengers can sip drinks or dine alfresco.

All cabins feature collapsible shower benches mounted on shower walls, toilets with collapsible arm guards and lowered ADA-height wash basins. All cabin bathrooms feature sinks with tile backsplashes and storage underneath, toilets and showers with glass doors. Elemis bath products are available in The Haven and Spa cabins. Cruise Hive was established back in 2008 and among the earliest blogs in the industry. Since the start, it's been our aim to provide the latest cruise news covering all the major cruise lines.

Are you curious about the activities, dining, and entertainment options onboard? There is a limited menu with several drinks, all of which feature Skyy Vodka. Once guests have ordered their first drink from the bar, they are handed a cup made of ice, and are free to wander the room, explore, and take photos.

Each cabin is equipped with a hair dryer, safe, flat-screen TV, writing desk with four outlets (two U.S. standard and two European) and minibar. Closets and shelving around the room provide plentiful storage. Here's everything to know about the Norwegian Getaway cruise ship operated by Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL). After locating our ship, we needed to park our car, because on this trip we chose to drive to Port Canaveral.

While we've done our best to provide all the information you'll need to decide which riverboat cruise you'd like to take, you might have specific questions of your own you need help with. As of the time of this post, each service offers cheaper tickets to both the Creole Queen Paddlewheeler and the Steamboat Natchez. If you’re looking for a great deal on tickets for either the Steamboat Natchez or the Creole Queen, there are a few options to consider. The typical swamp boat tour will take you on a leisurely trip through the swamplands, but there are also airboat tours that are much faster and more exciting.

All three options may include some form of dairy such as butter, cheese, or milk. To top it all off, the Creole Queen is included for free or for less money with most New Orleans tourist passes. ATMs are located all around the city, including one located within the cruise terminal. For some authentic New Orleans souvenirs, head to the French Market. Here, you’ll find colorful carnival masks, voodoo dolls, any number of hot and spicy sauces to take home, Mardi Gras beads, and pralines.

Have a true New Orleans style Christmas aboard the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen with a special Christmas Eve celebration.

The Steamboat Natchez VIP Jazz Dinner Cruise with Private Tour and Open Bar Option is going to be your best cruise option. The skyline at night is such a great experience, and the atmosphere and live jazz band are fantastic on this cruise. This dinner cruise is the highest-rated cruise with 500 reviews and the majority giving the cruise a 5-star rating. Step back into the glamour and romance of the riverboat era with a cruise aboard the Paddlewheeler Creole Queen! Experience the lively sounds of traditional New Orleans music while enjoying a lavish Creole Buffet in our elegantly appointed dining room. After dinner, and maybe a little dancing, enjoy a classic New Orleans cocktail and sweet Mississippi River breezes on our promenade deck as the city skyline slips by under a canopy of stars.

Cruise the mighty Mississippi aboard our award-winning, authentic paddlewheeler. Enjoy our leisurely dinner cruise with classic Creole cuisine or embark on a day trip to historic Chalmette Battlefield in Jean Lafitte National Park. Regent Seven Seas Cruises Just Added 164 New Itineraries

regents cruise lines

Our 300-square-foot-plussuite was comfortable and filled with natural light. It boasted a big king bed, a couch, full bathroom and a balcony big enough for two overlooking the ocean. The minimum age to sail Regent is 12 months, and the kids who sail tend to be slightly older and used to spending time in an adult environment. During holidays and over the summer, Regent can -- and does -- bring onboard extra staff to attend to the kids, even setting up programming divided by age groups.

Choose Viking if you love alfresco dining and Scandinavian specialties.

The luxury cruise line's sixth ship, the Seven Seas Grandeur, set sail for its inaugural season at the end of 2024. The ship was named one of T+L's best places to travel in 2024, and I was on board the ship’s three-night christening sailing for a first look inside the stunning new vessel. Regent Seven Seas Cruises is recognized as one of the world's premier luxury lines with features such as all-suite, all-balcony ships and superior space and service ratios. However, even more compelling than the quality of our ships is the adventurous spirit of Regent Seven Seas Cruises - the imaginative itineraries, unique shore excursions and land tours, and the other innovative services we offer discerning guests.

In-depth Exploration and Bespoke Holiday Experiences

Regent Seven Seas ships have one main dining room, called Compass Rose, and a number of specialty restaurants, all included in the price of the cruise. Passengers are entitled to at least one dinner in each of the ship's specialty restaurants. All ships have a steak restaurant (Prime 7) and an Italian option (Sette Mari), while Explorer additionally has Pan-Asian restaurant (Pacific Rim). The company calls flagship Explorer the most luxurious cruise ship in the world, and it has invested in getting the rest of the fleet up to that standard. In 2018, the line completed a $140-million refurbishment project that added Explorer features to the rest of the existing fleet, modernizing public spaces and cabins and bringing on restaurant concepts from Explorer. Shared spaces are comfortable yet opulent, with marble-topped tables, leather chairs and fresh-cut floral bouquets everywhere.

Small(er) Is Beautiful With New Regent Cruise Ship Grandeur

They include Compass Rose, the international cuisine staple of all Regent ships; Regent's signature steakhouse Prime 7; casual restaurant La Veranda; Asian eatery Pacific Rim; and French restaurant Chartreuse. In addition, Regent ships are known for being particularly opulent when compared to other ultra-luxury vessels. The line's new Explorer Class ships, in particular, are loaded with soaring spaces lined with pricey marble, crystal chandeliers and high-end art. Among other luxury touches, every cabin on every Regent ship is a suite, and the number of restaurants, bars and lounges is impressive for vessels of this size.

A Brand-New Ship to Surprise and Delight

regents cruise lines

Regent’s spacious ships offer sumptuous all-suite accommodation that is some of the largest you'll find at sea. Regent Seven Seas Cruises has six ships that provide a limited number of guests the highest standard of cruising excellence combined with exciting opportunities for discovery around the world. Browse and compare Regent Seven Seas cruise ships, an award-winning luxury fleet of all-inclusive ships. It had already done several introductory cruises, including sailing through the Panama Canal and arriving at the West Coast.

All three of the ships also have an elaborate Serene Spa & Wellness Center with treatment rooms and a relaxation room. A hydrothermal suite includes a multisensory aromatherapy steam room, chill room, infrared sauna and experiential showers, plus an outdoor lounge area with three whirlpools. All passengers regardless of their home country, citizenship or country of residency are responsible for obtaining the proper documentation for travel.

Additionally, Viking offers a handful of Northern Lights cruises in winter. Its smallest ship, Seven Seas Navigator, carries just 490 passengers and debuted in 1999. Mariner (2001) and Voyager (2003) are twin ships that carry 700 passengers, while flagship Explorer, which started sailing in 2016, can hold 750 people. While not strictly an adults-only cruise line, Regent cruises are best for adults traveling without small children.

Sail Into Savings

The top of the line is the Regent Suite, at $11,000 per night for up to six guests. The master bathroom utilizes nine different kinds of marble, and has an in-suite spa, heated loungers, a separate shower and jetted tub. We were told that the four-poster bed in the master bedroom had a $250,000 Hästens Vividus mattress. The Grandeur has a crew of 548 staff for only 746 guests, one of the highest staff-to-guest ratios in the industry. The personal service and all-inclusive billing (no liquor charges, no gratuities, etc.) are also integral parts of the ship’s luxury focus. All passengers, regardless of suite category, get mini-bars set up and replenished daily, fresh fruit, unlimited bottled water, a fair amount of storage space, 24/7 room service and a wide selection of on-demand movies and television programming.

Learn About Reward Programs

This is arguably the ultimate souvenir as it lasts forever and the dishes you make back home will bring back wonderful memories of your trip. As is the case with Regent's Explorer Class ships, all the cabins on the Small Cruise Ship Class vessels are suites. One big difference, though, is that these three older ships don't have the truly giant suites found on the Explorer Class ships. The biggest suites on all three of the vessels are in the 1,000-square-foot to 1,200-square-foot range. We had an impressive, aged New York strip steak with green beans and generous-sized French fries, at Prime 7, the classic New York-style steakhouse.

Regent regularly refurbishes its older ships, resulting in a fleet that generally feels fresh. The line's small ships and low passenger capacity can make for a more intimate experience, and the high space-to-passenger ratio means you never feel crowded. Like Viking, Regent Seven Seas is a perennial award winner, taking home prizes such as best luxury cruise line and best cabins in Cruise Critic's Editors' Picks.

This includes passports and visas for any country they may visit during their trip. Regent Cruise Ships are luxury vessels designed for hundreds of guests rather than thousands. Chosen as the World's Best Small Cruise Line by the readers of Travel + Leisure magazine and Conde Nast Traveler, Regent Seven Seas Cruise Ships share certain distinctions in accommodations, service, dining and amenities. The ambiance on a Regent Cruise ship is personal, individual, and accommodating.

Yet many are focused on the coming ‘city at sea,’ Royal Caribbean’s 20-deck, 248,663 gross tonnage behemoth Icon of the Sean, which can carry up to 7,600 passengers, along with 2,350 crew. Regent Seven Seas is the most-inclusive cruise line in the market today, and as such, the initial price paid up front is, unsurprisingly, among the highest in the industry. Across all its voyages, Regent offers 3,900 free shore excursions, though there are upgraded experiences available, like visits to artists' studios and chef-led tours of markets. In fact, culinary excursions are so popular that the cruise line has launched food-focused sailings that will continue through the 2025 – 2026 season. A pre-cruise hotel package for guests staying in Concierge-level suites and above is especially welcome for travellers from Australia and New Zealand who can look forward to boarding their ship well-rested and ready to enjoy their cruise. Every cabin on Viking's ships has a balcony, and there's room aplenty even at the smallest cabin, which comes in at 270 square feet.

Plan Your Visit Statue Of Liberty National Monument U S. National Park Service

cruise statue of liberty

Any trip to New York City must include a boat cruise around the Statue of Liberty. When you book an NYC Statue of Liberty tour with us, you’ll get an unforgettable view of this iconic New York City landmark from the water. The Statue of Liberty Museum and Liberty Island grounds remain fully accessible to all guests. The Museum tells the history and influence of Lady Liberty, including a simulated climb to her crown. A visit to the Liberty Vista, atop the Museum, offers a unique look at the Statue and sweeping views of New York Harbor.

Half-Day Guided Tour of the Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island

Statue City Cruises is our official source for tickets to the island. Lady Liberty wears a seven-spiked crown, but the exact symbolism of these seven peaks is still debated. Some say the seven spikes represent the seven seas and seven continents, while others argue that the spikes are sun rays that symbolize the statue’s divinity.

The National Park Service strongly recommends making advanced ticket reservations. Reservations secured far enough in advance allow visitors to select their desired level of access, eliminating the need to wait in line to purchase tickets. In honor of our National Holiday Weekends, Classic Harbor Line and Turnstile Tours have teamed up to offer a special series of Naval Harbor History Tours! Join us on Memorial Day Weekend for a special, in-depth tour of our rich harbor-related war history. This special 2.5-hour tour will explore the military history of New York Harbor from the Revolutionary War to today, with special emphasis on the role of the port in World War II.

Once the statue was completed in 1885, it was displayed in France before being taken apart to be sent overseas to New York. It arrived a few months later, and after being re-assembled, it was placed on top of a pedestal on Liberty Island. The Statue of Liberty was officially dedicated by President Grover Cleveland on October 28, 1886 in front of thousands of cheering spectators. The steel skeleton of the sculpture was designed by Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel, the visionary behind the Eiffel Tower. In her left hand, Lady Liberty cradles a tablet that is inscribed with the United States of America’s independence date, July 4, 1776, in Roman numerals. However, the completion of the statue took longer than expected and missed the deadline by 10 years, ultimately arriving in New York Harbor in 1886.

Explore the Statue’s history, view her original torch, and discover the passion that fueled her creation. Admire the famous New York City skyline while on a cruise past the Statue of Liberty. So, take in the sites of this famous skyline and iconic landmarks from the perspective of the water.

All ferry tickets include access to the Statue of Liberty Museum and the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration. Separate reservations must be made for pedestal and crown access. Ferries provide transportation to both Liberty Island and Ellis Island. Purchasing tickets through vendors other than Statue City Cruises may result in unnecessary additional charges. Jump aboard one of our yachts and join us for a Statue of Liberty Cruise!

Our brunch is a three-course prix fixe menu served in a hybrid fashion of both ‘family style’ and buffet. Guests are treated to a complimentary Bloody Mary or Mimosa as well! View the sites and cruise with us around the island of Manhattan from the yacht Manhattan’s climate controlled, glass observatory. You will enjoy our warm, cozy, and spectacularly decorated main cabin – which is sure to bring you and your guests into the Spirit of the Season. This round-Manhattan New Year brunch cruise is packed with a bountiful holiday-themed menu! Sit back and enjoy the gorgeous 360-degree view of the island from the climate-controlled and enclosed back-deck observatory of these 1920s style motor yachts.

Enjoy a boat ride in style through NY Harbor while your Captain gives you a personalized tour. You will be sure to have the best seat in the house for a sightseeing tour and photo snapping extravaganza. Unlike other yachts in the harbor, we aim to create an intimate and elegant atmosphere on our boats, so we only take up to 80 guests depending on which yacht you are on. Whether you are a visitor or native, our trips are sure to satisfy. You will glide by Governors Island and can wave “Hello” to the Staten Island Ferry passengers.

Even though the reviews are excellent, we do not believe a private tour is necessary. A guided tour in a small group is just as good and much more affordable. The Statue of Liberty’s right hand proudly holds up a torch that symbolizes enlightenment. In fact, the statue’s official name is “Liberty Enlightening the World.” However, the torch you see today is actually a replica. After the original torch suffered extensive damage over the years, it was replaced in 1986 by a new copper iteration covered in 24K gold. The original torch is displayed inside Liberty Island’s Statue of Liberty Museum.

This is truly the perfect way to start your evening and relax to the soothing sound of the jazz. See New York like you never have on this 2 hour sail aboard the Adirondack, a wooden 80-foot pilot schooner. Within five minutes of leaving the dock, you’ll forget the mayhem and noise of Manhattan street life, and you’ll feel the relaxing breeze of New York Harbor! Sail past the Statue of Liberty and get the best view of the NYC Skyline with the World Trade Center standing tall. On a cruise to Bermuda and Newport from New Jersey, you’ll sail past the famous emerald icon, endearingly known as Lady Liberty, that stands 305 feet above water.

Access to the pedestal and crown requires special tickets and should be purchased in advance from Statue City Cruises. Visitors should note that Statue City Cruises is the only authorized concessionaire permitted to sell tickets and provide ferry access to Liberty and Ellis Islands. As such, visitors should avoid street vendors peddling tickets in and around Battery Park.
